ECOSA to support Médecins sans Frontières and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust

11 November 2014

The team at ECOSA have voted to support the important efforts of both Médecins sans Frontières and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust through the coming year.

While we have no extraordinary exertions in plan, we will be donating the money saved by sending an e-Christmas card in place of printing and mailing cards this year. We will also be harnessing the power of our office spending through the Easyfundraising website.

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is a private international association that provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict. They do so irrespective of gender, race, religion, creed or political convictions. They are currently active in fighting the Ebola epidemic in West Africa and have brought emergency surgical help to Manila in the wake of Typhoon Hagupit.

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was established because of serious concerns about the 'plight of the bumblebee'. In the last 80 years our bumblebee populations have crashed. Two species have become nationally extinct and several others have declined dramatically. Our commoner bumblebee species contribute significantly to our economy through the pollination of crops. Pollination is vital for many of the nation's wild plants and it helps to maintain affordable five-a-day fruit and vegetables. Bumblebees also support the wider ecosystem through pollinating a diversity of wild plant species. BBCT aim to ensure that populations of these species have a long-term future in the UK.
