Surrey County Council (SCC) Building Services department recently invited ECOSA to deliver a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) talk to staff in respect of ecology. The council, having worked previously and currently with ECOSA on several building refurbishment/re-development projects, were keen to educate their staff about how ecology fits into the planning process, and to make sure all obligations in respect of ecology are being met.
On 1st March 2017, Principal Ecologist Frances King-Smith gave a talk to building surveyors, covering subjects such as survey timings, basics of current protected species legislation, when ecological issues should be considered in a project timeline, and also discussed a number of case studies involving local authority projects. Frances also talked about the likely implications of Brexit on protected species requirements, and discussed ecological issues affecting a number of current SCC projects.
The talk was well received, with many staff interested in learning more about the topics covered.
We deliver CPD sessions to a number of different sectors, including architects, construction companies and local authorities. Whether your staff need an introduction to ecology and the planning process, or you wish to expand existing knowledge, we can tailor a session to your specific needs. If you would be interested in receiving an ecology CPD session with ECOSA, please do not hesitate to contact Samantha Munslow, Principal Ecologist / Company Manager on 02380 261065, or email admin@ecosa.co.uk.
