Company History

Simon Colenutt established Ecological Survey & Assessment Limited (ECOSA) in 1999.

The business has grown successfully over the years and now has an extensive regular client base, including private home owners, planning consultants, architects, landscape consultants, companies in the construction, renewables, minerals and utilities sectors, local authorities, housing developers, education providers, conservation organisations and government bodies.

A growing company...

To keep up with our customer base our team of ecologists has also grown steadily, extending the breadth and depth of our expertise, as well as the ability to take on complex ecological projects and prove our collaborative project management skills.

To accommodate our expanding team, we moved from our offices in Winchester to more spacious accommodations in a rural setting east of Romsey in North Baddesley in January 2014.

ECOSA joins the Trinity family...

In the context of an ever-changing economy and an increasingly demanding and complex ecological legislative framework, we are dedicated to helping our clients achieve their planning or conservation objectives.

With this in mind, ECOSA joined Trinity Consultants, an international environmental, health, and safety consulting firm, in May 2019.

In bringing together Trinity’s professional support and experience with our own technical expertise in ecological survey and assessment services, the acquisition has created the potential to expand in terms of geographical areas and services offered, and to help realise the company’s longer-term business plan.

...and becomes a CIEEM Registered Practice

This exciting chapter in the company’s history also happily coincided with ECOSA becoming one of the first ecological consultancies to become a Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) Registered Practice in June 2019.

CIEEM is the leading professional membership body representing ecologists and environmental managers in the UK and abroad and exists to promote the highest standards of professional practice in the industry.

Registered Practices are ambassadors in their field, promoting high standards and best practice amongst employees, workers and contractors, and sharing their expertise to support others to make a positive impact on the environment.

Looking forward to the future...

Simon continues to lead the team as Managing Principal Ecologist.

We will continue our mission to deliver excellence in ecological survey and assessment services to our clients.

Our status as a Registered Practice affirms our commitment as a business to advancing the highest standards of practice in ecology, and delivering the best possible outcomes for biodiversity, our clients and the economy.
