New year new licences

14 January 2013

2013 is off to a great start with three new protected species licences being awarded to our younger ecologists by Natural England.

Simon Boswell has been granted his great crested newt licence which permits him to handle great crested newts and so manage comprehensive phase 2 surveys including bottle-trapping and netting.

Izabel Phillips has been accredited with both a great crested newt licence and a dormouse licence, similarly enabling Izabel to take on more project work where survey methods may require contact with those protected species.

In addition, Frances Lowe has been awarded an additional endorsement on her bat licence permitting her to handle hibernating bats in emergency situations.

All ECOSA ecologists are encouraged to maintain and develop their skills and qualifications through continued learning, breadth of experience and accreditation. The ECOSA team as a whole holds licences for the majority of European protected species found in the UK including all species of bats, badger, otter, dormouse, smooth snake and great crested newt.
