Bat season is here! Book now to avoid project delays

28 April 2015

Any development with the potential to affect bats needs some level of ecological survey. This may be a simple Phase 1 bat survey, involving an internal and external inspection of a building. However, should further Phase 2 bat surveys be needed, now is the time to get these scheduled in.

Due to a relatively restricted time-frame for Phase 2 bat surveys (the survey period being May to September), projects affecting bat roosts should ideally be screened for potential impacts up to two years prior to any planned construction start date. A Phase 1 bat survey can be undertaken at any time of the year, but scheduling these in now means any Phase 2 bat surveys can be undertaken this year enabling your planning application to be submitted in 2015. An absence of bat survey data with a planning application can result in planning permission being refused by local authorities. In turn, this then causes delays to construction programmes which could have significant cost implications.

Please call us for an informal chat to see whether your proposed development might prompt the need for a bat survey on 02380 261065. We would be happy to talk over your proposals and provide you with appropriate advice in relation to your planning application/proposals.
